Crystal Palace have struck an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur over a deal to bring in Brennan Johnson, although the winger must still make a final decision on his future before the move is completed.
A fee close to £35million (€40m, $47m) has been agreed between the two clubs for Johnson, who is also attracting interest from other suitors ahead of the January transfer window.
Should the 24-year-old Wales international greenlight the move, it would bolster Palace manager Oliver Glasner’s attacking options as the club balances both domestic and European campaigns.
The deal would also rank as the fourth-largest sale in Tottenham’s history — behind Gareth Bale, Harry Kane and Kyle Walker — despite Johnson no longer featuring prominently in head coach Thomas Frank’s long-term vision.
The Athletic reported in the Transfer DealSheet on December 26 that Johnson was Crystal Palace’s primary target for the January window.
Johnson ended last season as Tottenham’s leading goalscorer with 18 goals across all competitions but has seen reduced involvement under Frank, starting just six Premier League matches.
Tottenham boast several attacking alternatives, including summer arrival Mohamed Kudus, who has largely displaced Johnson on the right wing. Dejan Kulusevski has also mainly operated from the right flank (while being able to slot into midfield), though he has not featured since May after undergoing knee surgery.
Johnson emerged from Nottingham Forest’s academy, playing a key role in their promotion to the Premier League during the 2021–22 campaign. He completed a move to Spurs in September 2023 for £47.5m.
He registered five goals and 11 assists in his debut season in north London under Ange Postecoglou as Tottenham secured Europa League qualification. He followed that up with a standout 2024–25 campaign, scoring five times in European competition, including the decisive goal in the Europa League final as Spurs lifted their first trophy in 17 years.
So far in the 2025–26 season, Johnson has made 20 appearances in all competitions, featuring on both flanks and contributing four goals.
