New Leicester City arrival Francisco Vieites is enjoying the chance to work under fellow countryman Martí Cifuentes.
The shot-stopper joined the Foxes on a free transfer after leaving Real Betis in August.
He penned a two-year contract with Leicester after making 20 appearances for Betis across three seasons, having arrived from CD Lugo in 2022.
Eight of those outings came in the Europa Conference League last term, where he played a part in helping the club reach the final against Chelsea. He was, however, an unused substitute in the 4-1 loss in Wroclaw, Poland.
“I talked to [Cifuentes] on the phone,” he explained about his move. “I like the way he plays football. I like the way he expresses himself and I think we’ll do a great job.
“I’m very excited [to meet the other goalkeepers at the Club]. I’m trying to always improve and, for sure, I will learn something every day with them and the youngsters and the goalkeeper coaches.
“I’d describe myself as brave and [calm] at the same time. I’m always trying to communicate with my defence, my team-mates.
“I like to be brave in crosses or at the back of the defence, giving cover, and playing with both of my feet and the most important thing for a goalkeeper is to stop the ball of course. I’ve learned that every game is like the last game of your life.
“It’s maximum competition in the highest level, so you cannot disconnect any moment from the game. They can score a goal from anywhere, so everything starts in the moments where you are connected.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s the semi-final of the Conference League, or a regular league match, that’s the most important thing for me.”
He added: “I promise that I will give my best every day, every match, and I’m sure we will have fun. And the way that I have fun is winning!”
