Brentford have secured the signing of 20-year-old Italian right-back Michael Kayode from Fiorentina on a loan deal that includes an option to make the move permanent in the summer. The agreement is reportedly valued at approximately €17.5 million (£14 million).
Kayode, who has represented Italy at various youth levels, including the Under-21s, made 26 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina last season and featured in their run to the UEFA Europa Conference League final. However, this season, he has found playing time limited, making 12 appearances across all competitions.
Brentford’s director of football, Phil Giles, expressed optimism about Kayode’s fit with the team, stating, “Michael is a player that we think will suit Brentford and the physical nature of the Premier League very well.” The structure of the deal allows Brentford to integrate Kayode into the squad before deciding on a permanent transfer in the summer.
In his first interview with Brentford, Kayode described the club as the “perfect” fit for him and shared his ambition to help the team reach European competitions next season. He also praised head coach Thomas Frank’s tactical approach, highlighting a shared enthusiasm for pressing and ball possession.
“I am so excited to extend my stay at Brentford,” Kayode said.
“I have felt so welcome from the first day I arrived at the club, thanks to my team-mates and the care the coaching staff have shown me. I’ve wanted to play in the Premier League since I was a child and it’s been so good to do that here. “I can’t wait for more next season and beyond!”
Kayode’s arrival could impact the future of Brentford’s existing right-back options, with reports suggesting that Mads Roerslev may be allowed to leave, potentially joining Wolfsburg.
