Hull City manager Sergej Jakirović couldn’t help but highlight how Leicester City’s defensive lapses — particularly from Luke Thomas — made life far too easy for his side in their 2-0 victory at the MKM Stadium.

In a game where the Foxes were punished for a shambolic first half, Jakirović referenced Thomas’s involvement in both Hull goals, suggesting his mistakes directly contributed to Leicester’s downfall.

“His attempted interception left him in no man’s land for our first goal, and then for the second, he completely lost track of Gelhardt,” Jakirović said. “When you make those kinds of errors, you’re gifting the opposition the game. He should not be anywhere near the starting XI this weekend.”

Thomas’s defensive positioning proved disastrous early on. For the opener, his mistimed interception fell kindly for Hull, allowing Liam Millar to pounce and curl home a superb finish. Moments later, Thomas’s lapse in concentration left Gelhardt unmarked at the back post, doubling the hosts’ advantage before halftime.

While Thomas did provide a few promising attacking passes and crosses, his errors at the back overshadowed any positives. Jakirović hinted that those moments were the difference between the two sides.

“We didn’t need to work too hard for those goals,” the Hull boss added. “They came from their own mistakes. When a defender switches off like that twice, it changes the entire rhythm of the match.”

Leicester manager Marti Cifuentes didn’t shy away from admitting his side’s performance was well below expectations. He labelled his team “fragile” and criticised their inability to recover from Hull’s early momentum.

“It’s a performance that is far from the standards I have for my team and for the club,” Cifuentes said. “The positioning was bad in the first half. We conceded far too many transitions and didn’t track back with full effort. That’s why we conceded the first goal.”

Despite a better second-half showing — including a superb Aaron Ramsey strike and a late Harry Winks effort that rattled the bar — Leicester’s first-half collapse left them chasing a game that had already slipped away.

The defeat means the Foxes have now won just one of their last seven Championship matches, dropping to eighth in the table. As frustration grows among fans, questions are being raised about whether Thomas will retain his place in the lineup for the weekend.
