Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises wouldn’t be mistaken by securing Vaclav Cerny at Rangers again this transfer window.
The 27-year-old joined the Gers on loan from Wolfsburg last summer and emerged as one of their standout players in the previous campaign.
Cerny’s transfer to Ibrox could have been made permanent, but the Light Blues opted against it even before the takeover was officially declared.
Cyriel Dessers is drawing attention from AEK Athens, and if he departs, the Glaswegian team will have lost two of their top scorers from last season, making the Czech Republic international’s contributions arguably even more critical.
Cerny not in discussions with Rangers over new transfer:
Cerny and the Gers aren’t in negotiations over his return this summer from Wolfsburg, David Nehoda says.
The Czech star’s agent disclosed that the forward will rejoin the Bundesliga outfit once they commence their pre-season.
Nehoda asserts that the 27-year-old hasn’t received any firm offers yet, and all options remain viable regarding his future.
Speaking via the Rangers Review (20 June), he said: “Cerny will be back in Wolfsburg in time for their start of training. We are currently not in talks with Rangers about a possible further collaboration. There is no concrete offer from any other club either. The summer transfer market window does continue for a long time, though, so everything remains possible.”
Cerny’s future remains undecided, and if Cavenagh and the 49ers fail to pursue his return to Ibrox, supporters will undoubtedly be furious with the new owners.
The Czech national has proven to be a dependable attacking resource for the Glaswegian team, and it wouldn’t be logical to attempt signing him again.
It would likely demand substantial investment to acquire the 27-year-old’s replacements at the Gers this summer, and there’s no assurance that the new addition will have a comparable effect.
Russell Martin faces a formidable challenge at Ibrox, and the Light Blues need to assemble a competitive squad for the new coach before taking on Panathinaikos in the Champions League qualifying rounds in July.
Martin should urge 49ers and Cavenagh to sign Cerny:
Rangers have also lost Ianis Hagi ahead of next season, and Kevin Thelwell should ensure they bring in reliable reinforcements in the coming weeks.
The Gers have arguably made a misstep not retaining the Romania playmaker and Cerny despite their impressive performances last season, and now leave themselves lacking in quality up front.
While the new owners have pledged significant funding at the Light Blues this summer, they have yet to sign anyone for Martin.
The former Southampton manager will hope Thelwell provides him with the proper tools to work with soon, as fans anticipate immediate success at Ibrox, and a move for Cerny should be reconsidered.
