CRYSTAL Palace head coach Oliver Glasner has acknowledged that ‘it looks like’ Romain Esse is set to join Coventry City on loan in the coming days.
Earlier this week, Sky Sports News reporter James Savundra disclosed that the Sky Blues are nearing completion of a deal for the 20-year-old.
Palace boss Glasner has now confirmed that Esse is expected to finalise a move to the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The FA Cup-winning coach also made clear that Esse will not be involved for Palace in their Premier League clash against Aston Villa tomorrow evening.
Glasner said: “Yeah it looks like [it]. Not yet, but he won’t be part of our squad tomorrow.
“It’s better for him. We talked together. It’s finding the best environment for him as a player, to reignite his career.
“I still believe in his talent but I didn’t have the feeling that he brings to the team what we actually need, and that’s why I played for example [Christantus] Uche in front of him, when we needed a bit of physicality.
“Right now, his way of playing didn’t exactly what we needed at the moment. That’s why it’s better for him to go on loan and get more minutes and develop.
“He’s a good boy, with good talent, but I didn’t give him the minutes for his personal development.”
Esse is capable of operating on either wing or in an advanced midfield position.
He has made only seven appearances for Palace across all competitions this season, including three outings in the UEFA Conference League.
Esse joined Palace from Championship outfit Millwall in January last year after registering seven goals in 66 appearances for the Lions.
He was an unused substitute as Palace lifted both the FA Cup and the Community Shield.
Esse also found the net against Brentford last season with his first touch for the club in the Premier League.
Coventry are also reported to have struck an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to bring winger Yang Min-hyeok in on loan.
