Jamie Vardy is poised to be the centre of a new TV documentary that will detail his journey and career in Italy following his transfer to Cremonese. The ex-Leicester City forward, who famously climbed from non-league football to Premier League triumph, will offer fans an inside look at his latest chapter — joined by wife Rebekah Vardy.
Vardy’s former teammate Danny Simpson confirmed the production in an exclusive interview with GOAL, saying the 38-year-old is an ideal choice for the spotlight.
“I know there is one [a documentary] coming but not sure when that will come out. He’ll be brilliant, great character,” Simpson said. “He’s got a year, maybe two, in Italy — different lifestyle, different league, why not do it?”
After 13 years with Leicester, 500 matches, and 200 goals, Vardy departed following the club’s drop to the Championship last term. Refusing to hang up his boots, he signed for Cremonese in Serie A to keep playing at the top level. The upcoming documentary will capture his adaptation to Italian football, his family’s new life abroad, and his enduring love for the sport.
Simpson admitted he was surprised no Premier League side swooped for Vardy last summer. “I thought someone would take a punt,” he said. “He was still scoring goals for Leicester, leading the line, and could easily give you 10 goals a season. I even thought he’d be a good fit at Manchester United.”
Vardy, who is yet to find the net for Cremonese after dealing with a minor injury, brushed off any doubts about his age or motivation. “You must be one of the doubters,” he told reporters. “Age is just a number. My legs still feel fresh, so I’ll keep going. I’ll give my all for this club.”
The former England international also spoke about learning Italian and embracing the mission of keeping his new side in Serie A. “It’s the same as it was at Leicester — the goal is survival. You take each game one by one, give everything, and what will be will be.”
Although the documentary’s premiere date remains unconfirmed, filming has already begun in northern Italy. The series is expected to include behind-the-scenes clips of Vardy’s training sessions, rehabilitation, and off-pitch life with Rebekah, promising the humour, grit, and heart that made him a cult hero in English football.
