Leicester City have concluded a busy deadline day with the loan acquisition of attacking midfielder Aaron Ramsey from Burnley.
The 22-year-old joins City for the season to fill the void left by Bilal El Khannouss following his departure to Stuttgart earlier on the final day of the transfer window.
Ramsey arrives after missing nearly all of the Clarets’ promotion campaign last season due to a knee injury, the midfielder featuring just once, in late April, marking his first appearance in 14 months.
He has only been an unused substitute for Burnley in the Premier League this season but did find the net in his sole Carabao Cup appearance.
The last time Ramsey was a regular in the Championship, during the 2022-23 season, he netted eight goals and provided four assists across loan spells at Norwich and Middlesbrough from his boyhood club, Aston Villa.
With El Khannouss’s future uncertain, 17-year-old academy product Louis Page has been filling in, but Ramsey is expected to take on that role.
His debut could come against Oxford United in two weeks, where he might line up alongside fellow new City signings Jordan James and Julián Carranza.
Ramsey – the brother of recent Newcastle United signing Jacob – has been with Burnley since August 2023, following the club’s promotion to the Premier League, signing under Vincent Kompany from the West Midlands side for £12m on a five-year contract.
Since then, the England youth international has made just 19 appearances for the East Lancashire club under Kompany and current manager Scott Parker, with his only goal for the club coming in last Tuesday’s 2-1 win against Championship side Derby County in the EFL Cup second round.
Ramsey endured a challenging campaign despite Burnley’s immediate return to the top flight, with his aforementioned performance against the Rams marking his first start for the club since a 5-0 loss to Arsenal in February 2024, after which he was sidelined by a long-term knee injury.
