According to the Daily Record, the Hoops’ B team captain has reached an agreement to join David Martindale’s side.
The imposing young centre-back is currently picking up important minutes on loan at Inverness Caledonian Thistle in League One.
While the switch has effectively been agreed in principle, the 20-year-old is expected to complete the current campaign in the Highlands before formally sealing his move at the end of the season.
It is understood that Celtic and the West Lothian outfit have put together a deal that includes performance-based add-ons and future incentives, giving Robertson clarity over his long-term route forward.
The promising defender is eager to fast-track his progress through regular senior football at the highest level possible, with continued game time at Inverness expected to support his development in the short term.
Livingston are currently embroiled in a tense relegation scrap, sitting eight and four points behind Kilmarnock and St Mirren respectively as the season enters a decisive period.
Meanwhile, Celtic have initiated early talks to examine the possibility of signing West Ham striker Callum Wilson, according to Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph.
The Scottish champions are believed to be weighing up whether the England international would consider a move to Glasgow, with interest also coming from clubs in both the Premier League and the Saudi Pro League.
An update on that front suggests, as anticipated, that Callum Wilson is likely to head to Saudi Arabia rather than Celtic Park or any of the other Premier League destinations previously mentioned.
Mike McGrath, football reporter at The Telegraph, has shared an update in the past half hour regarding Wilson’s next move, effectively pushing any Celtic interest into the background. He writes:
“Al-Shabab to offer Callum Wilson deal but there is other Saudi and UAE interest in West Ham forward. Talks over contract termination and could travel next week to Middle East. The 33 year-old has Premier League interest but set to explore foreign move…”
Celtic were not even referenced.
Martin O’Neill is eager to add to his attacking options during the current transfer window after injuries ruled out Kelechi Iheanacho (who has since returned to training) and Callum Osmand, leaving Johnny Kenny as the only recognised centre-forward available.
Daizen Maeda has been used in a makeshift striker role ever since Kyogo departed nearly a year ago — and he has still not been properly replaced. Despite the steady stream of striker links, the club remain keen to land an additional forward before the window shuts.
Wilson, 33, has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season and has scored four goals for the Hammers. As reported by Sky, Celtic have already made an initial enquiry as they consider a possible move for the experienced forward, but with strong competition it was always viewed as a long shot — and recent developments have borne that out.
However, Celtic do not appear to be pushing matters. A striker should have arrived much earlier, with the board taking a gamble on fixtures against Dundee United and Falkirk. What would they have done without O’Neill?
