Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner is reportedly preparing to depart the club this summer, just months after allegedly threatening to walk away amid Marc Guehi’s proposed transfer to Liverpool.
The Reds had struck an agreement to take Guehi to Anfield, with the defender granted permission to complete a medical with the Premier League champions. However, the move collapsed at the final hurdle after Palace were unable to secure a replacement.
Guehi has since made it known that he will not commit to a new contract at Selhurst Park and intends to leave at the end of the campaign, with Manchester City now also entering the race for his signature.
And it now seems Glasner could be following him out of the door, with reports from Spain suggesting a successor is already being lined up for the Austrian.
According to Carrusel Deportivo, the Eagles have pinpointed Getafe manager Jose Bordalas as their preferred candidate to take charge should Glasner, as anticipated, decline to extend his current deal, which expires this summer.
Glasner previously insisted he did not deliver an ultimatum to the Palace hierarchy over Guehi’s future, but he did caution that the club would face a difficult campaign without their skipper.
He has also been especially outspoken about Palace’s limited spending last summer following the departure of talisman Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, directing criticism at the board in recent weeks.
He said: “We missed a couple of chances in July and August, in the transfer window, to make it easier for us but again we will stick together and make it better.
“If you play European football for the first time in your history, you should invest and not save.
“I think January is too late [to add]. We will have played more than 50 percent of our games. Everything was pretty clear and I didn’t say anything but today I think it is also time to speak about it that we missed the chance to play an even better season in the summer.”
Both John Stones and Nathan Ake are expected to move on, and the England defender is viewed as an ideal acquisition on a free transfer, with Liverpool tipped to revive their interest.
The Reds have endured defensive problems throughout the season, with Ibrahima Konate struggling to hit form amid uncertainty surrounding his own future, as his contract also runs out this summer.
