Former Rangers forward Kris Boyd has spoken out on the ‘huge lift’ Celtic could be set to receive with the possible return of Kyogo Furuhashi.
The Japan international enjoyed four productive years in Glasgow, netting 85 goals in 165 outings for Celtic between 2021 and January 2025 before completing a move to Rennes.
Now with Birmingham City following an unsuccessful stint in France, the attacker has found the net just once this season, coming in an EFL Cup tie against Sheffield United.
Despite those struggles, Boyd believes Kyogo would offer a significant uplift to Martin O’Neill’s attacking options ahead of a three-way title battle involving Celtic, Hearts and Rangers. “He’ll give Martin O’Neill and Celtic a monumental boost in the title race,” he said. [Scottish Sun]
“The fact is Celtic are in the market for a striker, and I see this deal as one that suits everyone involved down to the ground.
“Celtic now have a manager, though, who has been over the course and distance before, and that, for me, gives them a much better chance of retaining their title. And bringing in someone like Kyogo certainly isn’t going to do their chances any harm.”
Boyd continued, “I’d back him to get 15 goals between now and the end of the season, and that could be the difference between winning the league and finishing in second or even third spot.
“So it’s a no-brainer for all involved – Kyogo will still score goals in Scotland even if he’s been off form for the last year.”
Celtic’s next fixture sees them host Dundee United this Saturday in the Scottish Premiership.
