Leicester City boss Marti Cifuentes didn’t hold back after his side slumped to a third straight Championship defeat, losing 2-0 to Blackburn Rovers at the King Power Stadium — a result that saw the Foxes fall to 14th in the league.
Andri Gudjohnsen was the hero for Blackburn, scoring twice to secure consecutive away wins and heap more pressure on Cifuentes, whose side have now managed just one win in their last nine league matches.
The frustration inside the King Power was painfully clear at full-time. Loud boos echoed around the stadium as angry fans chanted “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” — and some even called for Cifuentes to be sacked on the spot.
But the manager wasn’t having it.
“It was disappointing and I understand the fans are frustrated,” Cifuentes said after the game, clearly rattled but defiant. “The fans have the right to be angry when we lose. But I can tell them that even the most committed Leicester fan in the world is not as angry as I am at the moment.”
Cifuentes admitted he’d brought his players over to face the fans not just out of respect, but out of unity. “I wanted us to get closer to the supporters after the game — it’s about staying together,” he added. “We need to give them something back and come out of this difficult time together. That’s the only way to go.”
Despite the worsening league form and toxic atmosphere, Cifuentes made it clear he isn’t walking away.
“I knew the situation when I arrived here but I am 100 per cent committed to changing things,” he said, voice firm. “Everybody needs to be accountable. We need to be better. The only way I know is by working harder.”
Blackburn, on the other hand, walked off the pitch with confidence and control. Manager Valerien Ismael was full of praise for Gudjohnsen’s finishing, but he singled out goalkeeper Balazs Toth for a sensational save in the second half that denied Leicester’s Stephy Mavididi from point-blank range — a crucial moment when the score was still 1-0.
“The save Balazs made in the second half was unbelievable,” said Ismael. “Everyone was on top in this performance. They wanted more than just the three points.”
Ismael went on to applaud Gudjohnsen’s form, who now has three goals in two games. “He stayed in the right positions. Now he’s found the rhythm — it’s very pleasing for us and for all the work he puts in every time.”
The pressure is undeniably mounting on Cifuentes with every dropped point — and with fans openly calling for his job, the Foxes’ next fixture against Middlesbrough now feels like a must-win, not just for the season, but for the manager’s future.
