Crystal Palace’s choice not to make Christantus Uche’s move permanent is continuing to create knock-on effects for Getafe.

Uche joined Crystal Palace on loan towards the end of the summer transfer window. The agreement includes an option for Palace to sign him permanently for €20m, which is only triggered if he starts 10 Premier League matches.
That scenario now looks highly unlikely. The attacker has scarcely featured under Oliver Glasner this season. Indeed, a report last month stated that Crystal Palace are keen to ensure the transfer does not become permanent. They will, however, retain Uche as a squad option until the campaign concludes.
This has created issues for Getafe, who were counting on the €20m fee. Marca explain that after the loan move was completed in the summer, the LaLiga club submitted financial documents classifying the €20m payment as ‘probable’.
LaLiga accepted this because the accounts had been approved by an auditor. As a result, Getafe were able to register six new players on the final day of the transfer window.
However, when Getafe later submitted their final accounts, the auditor revised their position, stating that the €20m was now ‘unlikely’ to arrive. LaLiga then revised Getafe’s salary limit and effectively froze their funding, leaving them unable to make the reinforcements they require in January.
Getafe appealed the decision to LaLiga’s Economic Control Committee, but the appeal was rejected. This week, they have taken the case to the Social Appeals Committee, which is expected to deliver a ruling in the coming days.
The situation ultimately traces back to Crystal Palace, whose apparent reluctance to pay €20m for Uche is now causing significant difficulties for Getafe this month.
