Angers SCO head coach Alexandre Dujeux has openly admitted that talented young striker Sidiki Chérif (19) is likely to depart the club this January, amid mounting interest from Premier League side Crystal Palace and Ligue 1 rivals Paris FC.
In a press conference ahead of Angers’ away fixture against Le Havre, Dujeux stated: “With the bids we’re getting, we expect Sidiki Chérif to leave. That’s how it is, I’ve accepted it. It’s important for the long-term stability of the club. This is not good news for me as a coach, but for the club, it is essential.”
The comments underscore Angers’ precarious financial position, with the club operating under strict oversight from France’s DNCG (financial watchdog) and one of the smallest budgets in Ligue 1. A significant transfer fee from Chérif’s sale could provide crucial breathing room for Le Sco, who sit comfortably mid-table despite their constraints.
Chérif, a product of Angers’ academy, has emerged as one of Ligue 1’s breakout stars this season. The 19-year-old forward, born in Guinea but representing France at youth level, has scored 4 goals in 16 Ligue 1 appearances (12 starts), contributing significantly to Angers’ solid 10th-place standing over the winter break. His physical presence, pace, and clinical finishing have drawn comparisons to emerging talents across Europe.
Reliable transfer insider Mohamed Toubache-Ter reports that Angers have already rejected two bids from Paris FC, with the club holding firm for a €30 million package, including €5 million in add-ons.
An earlier €23 million offer (bonuses included) from the ambitious newly-promoted side was also turned down, according to L’Équipe. Negotiations between Paris FC—backed by the wealthy Arnault family—and Angers remain ongoing, with the Parisians leading the domestic race.
