Leicester City head coach Marti Cifuentes has shared an initial injury update on Aaron Ramsey and Hamza Choudhury after both players were forced off during Monday night’s 2-1 victory over Derby County, with particular worry surrounding the on-loan Burnley midfielder.
Ramsey’s appearance lasted fewer than five minutes after he came on for Bobby De Cordova-Reid shortly after the hour mark. The midfielder quickly gestured to the bench to signal a problem, received treatment on the pitch, and then made his way straight down the tunnel.
Choudhury was withdrawn six minutes into the second half after sustaining a knock to his knee earlier in the match. Like Ramsey, he indicated to the bench that he was unable to continue before going to ground.
Both players will need further assessment, although the concern is greater with Ramsey, as it appears to be a recurrence of the hamstring issue that sidelined him for two months.
“Hamza got a knock in the first half on his left knee,” the City boss said. “At half-time, he was feeling it even more. He tried to continue but it was getting more difficult. We need to see tomorrow how he is feeling.
“Aaron’s is the same hamstring. It’s difficult to say now (how bad it is), we need to get more tests tomorrow (Tuesday) and then we will know more. It’s disappointing because he worked really hard to get back.
“He’s a quality player. I’m sure he can be an important player. It’s sad for him mentally.”
Ramsey missed nine matches between early November and mid-December due to a hamstring injury, which he initially suffered during the 1-0 defeat to Millwall on October 25.
Since arriving on loan from Premier League outfit Burnley on deadline day, he has featured in just eight matches, making only three starts.
The Foxes bounced back from defeats to Queens Park Rangers and Watford by seeing off their East Midlands rivals. De Cordova-Reid’s fifth goal of the campaign was cancelled out early by Rhian Brewster, before Jordan James continued his impressive form to net the winner.
Across his last seven Championship appearances, the Wales international has scored four times, taking his total to seven goals for the season.
