Leicester City are forecast to suffer a crushing nine-point penalty after reportedly breaching Profit and Sustainability (PSR) regulations.
That is according to former Aberdeen, Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who has outlined why the Foxes might receive such a sanction.
Back in March 2024, Leicester were first charged with a financial overspend following losses approaching £90million in the Premier League.
The club were then hit with another charge by the EFL in May 2025 for allegedly violating their monetary rules during the 2023-24 campaign.
Leicester could face a ‘major setback’:
Everton’s ex-chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009 and now operates a football advisory firm for top-level clubs – says Leicester will almost certainly contest any points deduction that arrives.
Nottingham Forest and Everton have both previously been docked points for similar financial breaches, leaving Leicester awaiting their own final judgement.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness anticipates that a nine-point punishment could be handed down to the Foxes.
He told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “Well, Leicester have got the problem of having won that lawsuit last year or at least found a loophole that made everybody a little bit angry, both the EFL and the Premier League, and they certainly haven’t forgotten.
“So there’ll be no points let off in terms of good behaviour and cooperation. So overall, there are three charges and it could be three points each charge.
“So it could be nine points maximum. Now, if there would be an appeal, which I’d expect them to appeal.
“I don’t expect any appeal to be looked at favourably, certainly not on cooperation. If there was legal issues around the other two charges where they got three points each, there may be a slight reduction, but certainly I think between seven and nine points is what they’re going to be looking for. And that’s a serious blow for them in the championship.
“I mean, we’ve been talking about Leicester having these issues for a long time now and it’s coming home to roost and I think this is going to be a big issue for them, but it will be a severe one. And I’ve got the feeling that the league would like to make a bit of an example of the way that Leicester have behaved. So I expect them to come down pretty hard on them.”
