Former Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers is the leading candidate to take charge at Wolves after the Premier League’s bottom side parted ways with Vitor Pereira.
Rodgers is currently unemployed following his departure from Celtic earlier this week but could be back in the dugout shortly.
The Wolves managerial position is now vacant following Pereira’s sacking. A 3-0 loss to Fulham on Saturday means they’ve collected just two points from their first 10 Premier League matches and are already eight points adrift of safety.
Pereira had performed exceptionally well after taking over Wolves last term, with City falling short in the relegation battle, but he hasn’t been able to sustain that level.
In a statement, Wolves said: “Results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards, and as a result a change in leadership was deemed necessary.
“Under-21 head coach James Collins and under-18 head coach Richard Walker will take training while the club finalise the appointment of a new first-team head coach.”
Now on the market, Rodgers has been made 2/1 favourite to step into the Molineux role by certain bookmakers.
His most recent Premier League stint was with City, the Northern Irishman departing after the club slipped into the relegation zone in April 2023. Dean Smith wasn’t able to steer them to safety before the season ended.
Also in contention for the Wolves position is ex-Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who had a brief spell at Bayer Leverkusen earlier this campaign.
Alternatively, Wolves might opt for another Portuguese tactician in Sergio Conceicao, a three-time title winner with Porto. However, he is currently managing Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.
