Leicester City’s hierarchy are keeping faith — for now — with Marti Cifuentes, despite growing pressure following the Foxes’ latest defeat at Millwall which leaves them with just one win in their last seven games.
Cifuentes’ men fell to a 1–0 loss at The Den, where Femi Azeez’s first-half strike condemned the Foxes to yet another disappointing result. It has left supporters frustrated, the dressing room reportedly flat, and the club’s top brass — led by director of football Jon Rudkin — facing a defining decision in the weeks ahead.
According to internal discussions at the King Power Stadium, Leicester City have not yet decided to sack the Catalan coach. However, there is a growing sense that the manager’s position is becoming increasingly fragile. The club’s leadership recognises the urgent need for results to turn quickly, or the project could unravel completely.
Cifuentes, appointed earlier this year after the dismissal of Ruud van Nistelrooy, has overseen a rocky start to his Leicester reign. Despite promising performances in patches, his team have struggled to convert possession into points — a pattern that is becoming all too familiar for the Blue Army.
Sources close to the club suggest Rudkin and chairman Aiyawatt “Khun Top” Srivaddhanaprabha are willing to give Cifuentes more time to steady the ship. But patience is wearing thin. Leicester’s board are fully aware that the club’s target this season is an immediate return to the Premier League, and anything short of a sustained promotion push will be viewed as failure.
The concern is that if form does not improve, and the expected points deduction linked to the club’s ongoing FFP investigation is eventually confirmed — reportedly in double digits — Leicester could find themselves staring down the barrel of an even worse fate: back-to-back relegations and the unthinkable prospect of League One football next summer.
Cifuentes himself has admitted his frustration, describing the Millwall performance as below standard and accepting responsibility for the team’s current struggles. He insists, however, that he remains committed to the club’s long-term rebuilding process and believes results will come once confidence returns.
For now, Leicester City have stopped short of pulling the trigger. But the message from the boardroom is clear — improvement must come fast, or a managerial change will become inevitable. With a crucial home fixture against Blackburn Rovers up next, all eyes will be on Cifuentes and his players to deliver a reaction.
Anything less than a convincing win could make Jon Rudkin’s next decision an unavoidable one.
