Everton have opted to recall midfielder Tyler Onyango from his loan stint at Stockport County. The club confirmed on 8 January that the 21-year-old has returned to Finch Farm after featuring 10 times for the League One side this season.
Onyango sustained a hamstring injury in November, and the decision to bring him back stems from the need to oversee his rehabilitation on Merseyside.
The move appears prudent, as Finch Farm’s medical facilities are far superior to those available at a League One club. Given that his recovery has already taken more than a month, there may be underlying complexities in his condition.
Everton are yet to disclose whether surgery will be required, but further updates are expected in due course. Onyango has already made four senior appearances for the Toffees, but his long-term future remains uncertain.
The midfielder’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, leaving the club with a decision to make. A new deal could hinge on his recovery progress and subsequent performances.
If Onyango regains full fitness, he may seek another loan move or aim to impress within Everton’s Under-21 setup to secure an extension. For now, the focus remains on his rehabilitation, with the coming months critical in determining his next steps at Goodison Park.
