Rangers managerial candidate Danny Rohl already has his coaching staff prepared and intends to bring a former Ibrox favourite with him to help win over supporters if appointed, according to the Scottish Sun.
The 36-year-old has surfaced as the leading contender to replace Russell Martin after Steven Gerrard withdrew from the race to become the next Rangers boss.
Rohl is assembling his team and is ready to get started immediately at the Ibrox outfit if he lands the role, but he isn’t the only name under consideration.
The Rangers hierarchy are determined to make the right decision this time, having been forced to search for a fifth permanent manager in less than three years.
Rohl ticks plenty of boxes, especially after the impressive job he did in the English Championship with Sheffield Wednesday. It will be interesting to see who ultimately gets the nod.
If Danny Rohl were to secure the Rangers position, he is expected to bring in a former club skipper as part of his coaching group.
Andy Halliday revealed that the German tactician would look to appoint Lee Wallace to his staff at Ibrox if chosen as Russell Martin’s replacement.
The ex-Sheffield Wednesday manager has emerged as one of the frontrunners for the position alongside Kevin Muscat.
This comes after Steven Gerrard officially ruled himself out of contention.
Although it’s still uncertain which direction Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe will take, both Rohl and Muscat are reportedly making early preparations in case they are chosen, with Neil McCann strongly linked to joining Muscat’s potential setup.
Halliday told Open Goal: “I’ve got a wee exclusive for you: Danny Rohl wants Lee Wallace for the coaching staff.”
Former Rangers forward Josh Windass is credited as Halliday’s source.
