There was a generally welcome surprise for Leicester City Football Club and their Blue Army supporters on Thursday morning. And I must confess that the update was unforeseen overall, but not entirely shocking. In general, the majority of LCFC fans are currently celebrating as the ownership confirms a positive exit.
An apparently key figure has departed the club. But who could follow next? We also pose the question: Are things finally shifting for the better on Filbert Way, with unwanted influences on and off the pitch beginning to leave the East Midlands outfit? Why was Susan Whelen not desired at King Power Stadium?
There was once a period when Chief Executive Officer Whelen was somewhat admired at LCFC. Well, as much as someone behind the scenes can be acknowledged. It should be mentioned that she achieved plenty of good.
The era in reference? 2016; everyone and anyone tied to the Leicestershire side were hailed as the Premier League title was secured.
Yet the seasons afterwards, particularly following the historic FA Cup win, were chaotic when considering everything. Whelen, and without question Director of Football Jon Rudkin, were justly criticised for Leicester’s downfall.
Although chairman Aiyawatt ‘Khun Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha should also shoulder blame. His mismanagement here and in Thailand represents a genuine threat to LCFC, when he could otherwise be a valuable strength.

Fans I know, who are familiar with the situation, expressed no sadness when Whelen’s departure was revealed. Neither did the majority of the faithful on social media. The stagnation and embarrassment was too much for some Leicester diehards to endure – and rightly so!
The official statement confirmed that Srivaddhanaprabha will assume the role temporarily. Hopefully the clearly damaging Rudkin is the next one shown the door.
