One Leicester City player has, completely unexpectedly, been handed a significant, four-year extension to his current deal. The Fox in question is fairly divisive when it comes to the Blue Army fan base’s views.
Leicester supporters have generally appeared indifferent or unconcerned about the left back during the seasons he’s been at King Power Stadium. He has also gone out on loan multiple times, with outside clubs rarely following up on a permanent deal after witnessing his abilities.
City’s fans are noticeably split over the defender’s new contract, it has to be said. One fan essentially remarked, ‘Why would we do this?!’ on X.

However, several supporters came to the player’s defense (please excuse the pun) on social media, with another noting that the fresh deal was as logical and standard as they come, considering the player’s progress and standing.
That said, I have to admit I’m torn on the issue and can fully understand both perspectives. Let’s get into it.
‘Why would we do this?!’ – Leicester City fans divided over defender’s new deal
If you weren’t aware, Leicester full back Luke Thomas was rewarded for his recent improved contributions at the back.
I’m happy to recognize the refinement and elevated performances the former Middlesbrough and Sheffield United loanee has demonstrated.
Nonetheless, if he truly is LCFC’s top left back, as some supporters have claimed, then the East Midlanders will need to reinforce the position upon their return to the Premier League. Thomas has produced a handful of exceptional displays over the years; he even managed to contain Mohamed Salah at least once.
