Rick Passmoor is poised to be named as interim Leicester City manager.
Reports indicate that the announcement is forthcoming.
Passmoor was most recently assistant coach to Rehanne Skinner at West Ham United, but boasts an extensive history in women’s football.
He has served two terms as manager of Leeds United Ladies. In the first, starting in 2007, he guided his team to the Women’s FA Cup final and secured third place in the FA Women’s Premier League (the top domestic tier before the Women’s Super League was established) in 2007-08.
In his second stint, beginning in the 2022-23 season, the team clinched the FA Women’s National League Plate. Players who developed under Passmoor’s guidance at Leeds included future Lionesses Ellen White, Steph Houghton, Jade Moore, Carly Telford, and Jess Clarke, current Ireland coach Carla Ward, and prominent co-commentator Lucy Ward.
In the WSL era, Passmoor managed Lincoln Ladies, which later became Notts County Women before withdrawing from the league in 2017. Their 2015 season was particularly notable, reaching the finals of both the Women’s FA Cup and the League Cup.
A former player with Scunthorpe United in the mid-1980s, Passmoor has also contributed to men’s football, initially as an assistant and youth coach with the Iron.
In 2000, he joined Leeds United as a senior academy coach, nurturing young talents who progressed to professional football, including Sam Byram, Kalvin Phillips, Fabian Delph, Tom Cairney, and Lewis Cook, alongside his work with the women’s team.
Passmoor returned to Scunthorpe United in 2018, first as youth development manager and later as head of coaching and coach development.
Leicester City’s managerial merry-go-round
Leicester City announced the exit of previous manager Amandine Miquel last week. She assumed the role in July 2024 and led the team to a 10th-place finish, earning 20 points from 22 matches.
A statement from the club at the time thanked Miquel and her assistant Amaury Messuwe, wishing them well in their future endeavors, and added: “The squad continues its preparations under the wider coaching team ahead of the new WSL season.”
The club is now searching for their fifth permanent manager in four years, following the tenures of Jonathan Morgan, Lydia Bedford, Willie Kirk, and Miquel.
Matt Beard, the former Liverpool manager, parted ways with Burnley last week after two months and had been linked with the role, but he has been placed on three months of gardening leave.
Leicester City will kick off their WSL campaign with a trip to Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, September 7th.
