“Crisis at West Ham! Fabianski Out and Areola Thrown to the Wolves Against Ruthless Liverpool Attack!”

West Ham Face Goalkeeper Dilemma as Fabianski Remains a Major Doubt for Liverpool Clash

West Ham United are sweating over the fitness of Lukasz Fabianski ahead of their Sunday showdown with league leaders Liverpool, reports Metro. Chris Davie confirmed on Saturday [28 December] that the veteran goalkeeper is a “major doubt” following a serious collision during the Boxing Day victory against Southampton, which saw him stretchered off after requiring oxygen on the pitch.

Julen Lopetegui has offered some relief, stating that Fabianski is “feeling better” and progressing in his recovery. The incident was deemed severe enough for broadcasters to withhold replays, underlining the concerns for the 38-year-old’s wellbeing.

In Fabianski’s absence, Alphonse Areola is poised to return between the sticks. The French international has not started a competitive match for West Ham since his demotion following the 4-1 drubbing by Tottenham on 19 October. However, with Fabianski nearing 40 and out of contract this summer, this could be a pivotal opportunity for Areola to reclaim his spot as the Hammers’ first-choice goalkeeper.

Areola will have no time to ease back into action, with Liverpool’s rampant attack likely to test him early and often. The 31-year-old will need to step up to the challenge if he is to solidify his future in East London.

The Sunday evening clash at the London Stadium promises to be a key moment not only for West Ham’s season but also for Areola’s career trajectory.
