Former Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill has declared his exit from Turf Moor after five years with the club.
The ex-Clarets captain guided Burnley to a 100-point finish and automatic promotion back to the Premier League last season, scoring 18 goals and providing six assists, but has decided to end his tenure in East Lancashire.
Brownhill turns 30 in December and is seeking a fresh challenge at this stage in his career. While he has yet to commit to a new team for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign, FourFourTwo understands a lengthy contract offer has been presented by Championship title contenders Leicester City.
The attacking midfielder was one of the division’s top and most reliable performers last season, narrowly missing out on the Golden Boot award to Leeds United’s Joel Piroe.
Brownhill sets sights on new challenge:
We did believe Josh Brownhill would turn his head and sign for another Premier League club. But the fact that Leicester have offered him a long-term deal, hopefully he considers this seriously.
Brownhill is a type of player that would fill a void at Leicester at this point. Brownhill scored 18 goals in 42 league appearances last season. Having him at Leicester, bringing him in on a free would be a significant signing.
Nothing is certain at this stage. Looking at this contract offer from Leicester, he will most certainly consider it seriously. He knows he will be a very important player.
Leicester have over a number of years been viewed as a club attempting to bring in Brownhill. He is still 29 years old. A contract of three or four years will be substantial for the player. He still could perform to a very high level reaching that age in his position.
We are awaiting with anticipation, and hopes are this transfer will occur. The teams in Premier League pursuing Brownhill could be facing a relegation battle. So with that in mind, Leicester could have a strong chance.
