BAD NEWS — Leicester City hit with another Gigantic Points Deduction as EFL pundit reveals whether Leicester City will win Championship promotion

Leicester City have been demoted to the Championship and continue to face financial challenges despite prevailing in two cases last season.

It surfaced earlier this week that Leicester City might receive a nine-point deduction after being accused by the Premier League of an alleged violation of profit and sustainability rules related to the 2023/24 season.

The Foxes have also yet to complete a signing this summer, but they have now secured a successor for Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Marti Cifuentes was named Leicester manager on Tuesday, and one finance expert has explored why the manager accepted a pay reduction to join the Foxes.

Now, the Midlands team’s prospects of achieving promotion in 2025/26 have been speculated upon.

Leicester City Championship promotion prediction
Typically, teams dropping from the Premier League are among the favorites to return directly to the top tier.

Even if they must sell some of their prominent players, these squads generally possess a higher-quality roster and greater resources than the rest of the Championship.

A nine-point deduction would, of course, be a significant setback in Leicester’s pursuit of a quick return to the top flight.

However, EFL analyst Benjamin Bloom remained optimistic about the Foxes’ chances of earning promotion next season, even with the deduction, supporting them to reach the play-offs.

He said: “How’s the squad, how is the manager, can they post 80, 85, 90 points and have a really good season, finish top two, could they do top two? They would need a big total, probably.

“Could they do playoffs? I think probably. Could they win the play-offs? We’ll see – a ball hasn’t been kicked yet.”

Leicester City transfer news
Leicester completed just one acquisition during the 2025 winter transfer window, bringing in full-back Woyo Coulibaly.

They, along with the restricted Sheffield Wednesday, are the only two teams yet to make a signing this summer.

But Leicester are being connected with transfers this week, with a move for Harry Toffolo suggested.

The Foxes are also believed to be tracking Max Lowe, who might depart Wednesday without a fee.
