Chris Wood in Contract Talks with Nottingham Forest Amid Impressive Form

Details have surfaced regarding Nottingham Forest’s ongoing contract negotiations with striker Chris Wood. The 33-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, but the club is eager to retain his services and has opened discussions over a new contract for the New Zealand international.

The Daily Mail reports that Forest initially tabled a one-year extension. However, Wood, who has been in stellar form this season, is pushing for a two-year deal. Despite the differing terms, both parties remain optimistic about reaching an agreement.

Speaking previously about the prospect of extending his stay at the City Ground, Wood said: “Whenever it happens, it happens. It’s not something I can control or worry about. I can’t let it affect me. These things take time and I just have to worry about scoring goals, winning games and doing well for this club.

“I still have ambitions and drive to play long into my 30s. It’s how you take care of your body and how you take care of nutrition off the pitch, it’s huge. I want to play for as long as I can.”

As things stand, Wood would be free to negotiate a move to an overseas club from January 1. He is not the only player in this position, with full-back Ola Aina also in discussions about a contract extension.

Wood’s contributions this season have been vital to Forest’s impressive campaign under Nuno Espírito Santo. The striker has notched up 10 goals, making him the club’s all-time leading scorer in the Premier League.

Nuno has revitalised Wood since arriving at the club, with the forward enjoying a productive partnership with the Portuguese manager. Reflecting on their working relationship, Wood remarked: “It’s worked well so far and hopefully there’s a lot more to come for both of us. I’ve had a lot of great managers over my career and it’s nice to have another one to add to the group.”

As Forest battle near the top of the Premier League, securing Wood’s future remains a priority, with fans hopeful a deal can be struck soon.
