NafisaRUSSELL MARTIN is ‘nearing’ confirmation as the next Rangers boss, it’s being reported.
Scottish Sun revealed back on February 28 – the day Philippe Clement was dismissed – that Martin was a strong candidate for the position.
Since then, names like Steven Gerrard and Davide Ancelotti have also been strongly associated with the vacancy.
However, the 39-year-old, a former Rangers player, has now emerged as the leading candidate for the Ibrox role, after interest from Leicester City failed to materialise into anything concrete.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports this afternoon that the ex-Southampton, Norwich and MK Dons manager has ‘accepted the project’ and Rangers are nearing an agreement.
He wrote: “Rangers are closing in on the appointment of Russell Martin as new head coach.
“Former Southampton manager has already accepted the project, ready for new chapter.”
According to reports, Rangers’ newly appointed Sporting Director, Kevin Thelwell, has confirmed that the club is nearing the appointment of a new men’s first-team head coach. Final round talks are underway with candidates Davide Ancelotti and Russell Martin, with a decision expected shortly.
Martin, who previously managed Southampton, has been out of work since December 2024. During his tenure at Southampton, he led the team to promotion to the Premier League via the Championship play-offs.
