‘It’s been a privilege to wear the badge. Thank You’ — Rangers star bids Emotional Farewell to Ibrox in social media post after packing his bags and waving Goodbye to the Gers

Rangers defender Jayden Meghoma has said an emotional goodbye to the club as his season-long loan spell from Brentford comes to an end.

The 19-year-old made 44 appearances for Rangers throughout the campaign and for the first half of the season was their only senior recognised left-back.

Since being brought in by former manager Russell Martin in August, Meghoma scored once and registered six assists. He will now return to the Brentford Community Stadium, where he remains under contract for another year.

It was a season of highs and lows for the young full-back, who Rangers heavily depended on before January, when manager Danny Rohl signed Tuur Rommens from Westerlo to strengthen his left-back options.

Having featured so regularly, the move has been beneficial for Brentford, who decided to loan him out to ensure he gained more playing time.

As he now heads back to London, Meghoma took to X to share his appreciation to Rangers for giving him his first season of consistent football at senior level.

In an emotional farewell message, he wrote: “It’s been a privilege to wear this badge. Thank you to my teammates, staff, and especially the fans for the support this season. Rangers FC is a special club and one I’ll always be thankful to have represented. All the best for what’s ahead.”

While defensive awareness eventually cost Meghoma his place in the side to Rommens, going forward he showed clear signs of potential. His powerful strike in December’s 2-2 draw away to Dundee United remains one of the standout goals Rangers scored all season. The Englishman also posed a danger from set-piece situations.

Meghoma now joins Andreas Skov Olsen, Derek Cornelius, Max Aarons, Nasser Djiga and Mikey Moore on the list of players returning to their parent clubs.

The most high-profile of which is the latter, who Rohl claimed he will ‘try everything’ to sign from Tottenham Hotspur after a positive campaign.

Also heading out of the Ibrox exit door are academy graduates Leon King and Kieran Wright, who both said farewell to the club last week after 17 years of service each.

Chairman Andrew Cavenagh has echoed Rohl’s stance that a major summer rebuild is needed at Ibrox ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
