Leicester City Announced the RELEASE of 11 Players days after Season ends with ONE immediately joined EFL rivals amid Jamie Vardy’s departure from King Power Stadium

Leicester City have announced the departure of nearly a dozen players, with one already securing a new team.

The Foxes published their retained list following their demotion from the Premier League.

Altogether, 11 individuals have been released by the club after their contracts came to an end.

This includes three senior players and eight who were on youth deals.

Jamie Vardy was among the trio, joined by goalkeepers Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen.

Vardy received an emotional farewell from the Foxes as the Premier League and FA Cup champion opted to move on after making 500 appearances and scoring 200 goals.

A statement from Leicester read: “All three leave with the heartfelt thanks of everybody at Leicester City for their contributions during their time at King Power Stadium, as well as our best wishes for the next chapters in their careers.”

Iversen has already been unveiled as a new signing by another Championship side – Preston.

The 6ft4in shot-stopper made 17 appearances for the Foxes but spent considerable time out on loan.

He had two different spells at Preston and has now returned there permanently on a four-year contract.

He said: “I love it here. It’s the most I’ve been happy. Preston is where I’ve played my best football.

“Preston feels like home for me. Everyone around the club are good people and the fans too. I just love it here so it’s a no brainer for me to come back.”

In addition to the three senior squad members, eight academy players have also been released: Oliver Ewing, Harvey Godsmark-Ford, Ben Grist, Deniche Hill, Liam McAlinney, Arjan Raikhy, Joe Wormleighton and Brad Young.

It’s expected to be a summer of transition for Leicester following their immediate drop from the top division.

Enzo Maresca guided them to the summit of the Championship in the 2023/24 campaign before leaving for Chelsea.

His successor, Steve Cooper, lasted only until November. Ruud van Nistelrooy was brought in to try and save the Foxes from the drop but was unsuccessful.

talkSPORT has learned that Van Nistelrooy is on the verge of being dismissed by Leicester in the coming days.

The club is in advanced negotiations with ex-Southampton manager Russell Martin to step in.

Players released by Leicester:

Jamie Vardy
Danny Ward
Daniel Iversen
Oliver Ewing
Harvey Godsmark-Ford
Ben Grist
Deniche Hill
Liam McAlinney
Arjan Raikhy
Joe Wormleighton
Brad Young

This all unfolds amid further accusations that the club breached profit and sustainability regulations during their last stint in the Championship.

If found responsible, the Foxes could be hit with a points penalty next season.

Leicester previously won an appeal over a similar charge related to the 2022/23 season, when they were relegated from the Premier League.
