NafisaA Celtic goalkeeping target is reportedly keen on the prospect of joining Parkhead instead of Wolves.
Martin O’Neill’s side have secured the Premiership title for a fifth consecutive year and are just a Champions League play-off away from returning to Europe’s elite club competition. However, it is still expected to be a huge summer, with O’Neill set to move on and a squad rebuild incoming after recruitment was criticised this season. They face Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday.
Nikolas Polster has been identified as a goalkeeping option, an area of concern for Celtic, with veteran Kasper Schmeichel likely to have featured for the final time due to injury and Viljami Sinisalo now positioned as the number one.
Polster has stood out in Austria with Wolfsberger and could be available for a fee under £2m, with the former youth international said to favour a switch to Celtic over a move to Wolves for their Championship campaign or join Hoops’ bitter rivals Rangers.

Transfer journalist Pete O’Rourke reports via Football Insider: “Nikolas Polster is interested in the idea of a move to Celtic to become their starting goalkeeper this summer, sources have told Football Insider. Austrian side Wolfsberger are willing to cash in on the 23-year-old gloveman this summer, and the player himself is keen on the idea of a move to Celtic Park.
“The Bhoys are in the market for a new first-choice option with Kasper Schmeichel set to depart, and sources have indicated that Polster is hopeful of being able to step up in level ahead of next season. The youngster has kept eight clean sheets from 29 games in the Austrian Bundesliga this term, and he also has interest from Wolves on the table ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
“Celtic are keen to sign Polster this summer, and it will not be a deal that breaks the bank for them in terms of their summer spending. The shot-stopper is set to be available for just £1.75million in the window.”
Viljami Sinisalo on winning the league:
Speaking after a 3-1 win over Hearts sealed the title last Saturday, Sinisalo said: “I don’t know what to say to be honest. I am so happy I can’t put it into words. I can’t put the emotions into words. I am just so happy we have done it to be honest. The best day of my life. I don’t think there was any doubt.
“We very much had that belief in the dressing room from three months ago, the start of January, it’s a good group of lads. Sometimes when things aren’t going well you need to stick together. There’s so many good teammates in our group and that is what gets you through. I am so privileged to be here and I can’t thank the fans enough.
