NafisaWolves have received a boost in their potential chase of iconic Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy ahead of the summer transfer window.
Vardy recently revealed that he will depart Leicester at the conclusion of the season after a remarkable 13-year spell at the King Power Stadium. Many had assumed the 38-year-old would hang up his boots with the Foxes, but it seems he intends to continue his playing career a little longer.
The ex-England striker — a winner of the Premier League, FA Cup and Community Shield — has netted 144 goals and provided 50 assists in 341 Premier League outings. He has added another 38 goals and 16 assists in 98 Championship matches and featured 26 times for England during his prime, scoring seven goals.
Leeds United, newly promoted to the Premier League following their Championship triumph, have been strongly linked with a swoop for Vardy. Clubs such as Wrexham AFC and Birmingham City are also said to be in the mix, but a switch to Wolves is reportedly still a possibility.
BBC Sport journalist Nick Mashiter stated in a live Q&A: “Vardy will still be an asset for whichever club he joins this summer, given his experience and desire to keep scoring goals. He has got nine goals this season, perhaps outstripping expectation – especially in a team that has struggled to score – and he needs one more to reach 200 goals for Leicester, with just two games of his Foxes career left.
“Vardy enjoyed a good relationship with Dean Smith during his brief spell at Leicester, with the former Foxes boss now doing well with Charlotte in the MLS. He was eager to sign Vardy last summer so don’t be surprised if there is interest there, although you can’t rule out any links to Wolves. The 38-year-old will likely have to take a pay cut for his next move but there is a clear inner belief that he can still play in the Premier League.”
