Hibernian’s December showdown with Rangers has been handed a major fixture change, with the Scottish Premiership meeting at Easter Road moved to Monday night for live television coverage.
The match was originally scheduled for Saturday, December 5, but Hibs have confirmed that they will now welcome Derek McInnes’ Rangers on Monday, December 7, with kick-off set for 8pm.
The William Hill Premiership fixture will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, giving supporters a Monday night meeting between the Edinburgh side and the Glasgow giants as the Scottish football calendar enters a busy period before Christmas.
The change means fans who had planned around the original Saturday date will need to adjust their arrangements, with the match now taking place two days later than initially scheduled.
Tickets are not yet on sale for the game. Hibs have confirmed that further information will be communicated to supporters in due course.
The announcement forms part of the latest batch of Scottish Premiership television selections released by the SPFL on Monday, October 12. Six additional league fixtures in December have been selected for live coverage across Sky Sports and Premier Sports.
Rangers feature prominently in the latest selections, with their trip to Easter Road among the matches moved to accommodate television broadcasting.
The Light Blues are also scheduled to visit St Johnstone on Sunday, December 13, for a noon kick-off live on Sky Sports. However, that fixture will be postponed if Rangers reach the Premier Sports Cup final.
McInnes’ side are then due to host Hearts on Sunday, December 20, at 2.30pm, also live on Sky Sports. The sequence of televised matches means Rangers supporters have several important dates to keep track of as the season approaches its winter stretch.
For Hibs, the Rangers fixture is not the only significant December date that has changed. Their trip to Celtic Park has already been rescheduled for Sunday, December 13, with a 3pm kick-off.
That leaves Hibs facing two major Scottish Premiership tests against the Old Firm within a six-day period, beginning with the visit of Rangers on December 7 before the journey to Celtic Park the following Sunday.
The December schedule could therefore prove an important examination of David Gray’s side, with both fixtures offering demanding tests against two of Scottish football’s biggest clubs.
Supporters should note that the Rangers match is now confirmed for Monday, December 7, at 8pm, rather than the originally scheduled Saturday, December 5 date. The game will take place at Easter Road and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
Hibs have yet to announce ticket-sale details, with further information expected to be shared directly with supporters.
