Now the centre-back appears to be heading for a departure from King Power Stadium this summer. You could argue the former Southampton player only enjoyed one notable campaign at LCFC during his nearly four-year stint on Filbert Way. Has his time finally run out?
According to multiple sources over recent months, Danish defender Jannik Vestergaard clashed with Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The ex-Southampton man hasn’t featured under the Dutchman since February. The disagreement between the Foxes coach and his player is reportedly similar to the situation involving sidelined midfielder Harry Winks.
Winks and Vestergaard are said to have refused to comply with the former Manchester United interim coach’s instruction to stay overnight at Seagrave before a significant away fixture.
Regrettably, and arguably to the squad’s disadvantage, the duo—both out of favour—chose to continue living around and respectively 100 miles away from the training base.
To sections of the Blue Army fanbase, this seems odd and perhaps unprofessional—particularly from players who haven’t fully embraced the club or the city that supports them.

Reports from the defender’s homeland suggest he and the club’s leadership could ‘mutually agree’ to terminate his deal before the summer window. LCFC officials are reportedly (and plausibly) ‘aiming to reduce expenses’ at the King Power.
Van Nistelrooy’s position on Vestergaard is evidently a contributing factor. Regardless of whether the 48-year-old continues at Leicester next season, he might still play a part in facilitating the 32-year-old’s exit. Personally, I don’t view either potential departure as an issue.
