Aston Villa currently occupy seventh spot in the Premier League standings, trailing the Champions League positions by three points with three fixtures remaining.

Nottingham Forest are one point clear in sixth, while Chelsea and Newcastle United are level on points in fifth and fourth place respectively.

With Newcastle hosting Chelsea at St James’ Park on Sunday and Forest also playing later that day, Villa have a chance to reduce the deficit when they take on AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday evening.

Villa secured fourth place in the Premier League last season, earning a Champions League berth and making it to the quarter-finals.

This term, the top five teams in the Premier League will qualify for the next edition of the Champions League.

Villa will remain optimistic heading into their final trio of games against Bournemouth, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United. However, they’ve been dealt a significant injury setback involving influential midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Youri Tielemans injury confirmed for Aston Villa

As reported by The Athletic, Tielemans is expected to miss the ‘remainder of the season’ due to a muscle injury.

David Ornstein tweeted: “Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans set for spell out injured – fears 28yo Belgium international will miss rest of #AVFC season with muscle problem. Chance of returning for #MUFC on last day but currently seen as remote.”

It marks the second possible season-ending injury for Villa in recent weeks, with January loanee Marcus Rashford also currently out with a hamstring issue.

Since arriving at Villa Park, Rashford has netted four goals and provided six assists, but he won’t be able to add to those numbers before the season wraps up. Villa do have the option to make his loan move from Manchester United permanent this summer, which would cost the Midlands club £40m.

Nonetheless, Villa manager Unai Emery remains hopeful that Rashford could make a return before the campaign concludes. The complication is that Villa face Manchester United on the final matchday, which would render Rashford ineligible even if he regains fitness in time.

“He’s working on his comeback as soon as possible, but there are still weeks to be available,” Emery said. “Hopefully, he will play with us in one or two matches.”
