The development quickly spread among football supporters, with Leeds fans understandably left wondering whether the club would be forced into making a public statement over the situation and whether there could be any implications for the Premier League side.
However, Leeds have now made their position clear — at least for the time being.
The club has declined to comment publicly on the matter when approached by media outlets, meaning there has been no stern statement or detailed response from Elland Road addressing York’s arrest. He was sentenced to one day in jail for each offence, with the sentences running concurrently, and received credit for the time already served. He was also fined $1,150.
The case has now been resolved in court, something that appears to be central to the ownership group’s decision not to make further comment.
The San Francisco 49ers, who York owns, have also indicated that they will not provide additional information, saying: “As this is a legal matter, which has been resolved, we will not be providing any further comment at this time.”
The NFL, meanwhile, has confirmed that it is aware of the incident and will review the matter under its personal conduct policy.
That review could potentially lead to further developments surrounding York’s position in American football, although there has been no indication that Leeds United themselves are facing any sporting punishment as a consequence of the case.
For Leeds supporters, the situation is particularly notable because York is not simply an outside investor with a distant connection to the club.
49ers Enterprises completed its takeover of Leeds United in 2023, becoming the club’s controlling ownership group after previously holding a minority stake.
