The 20-year-old winger, who had been representing Ghana during the international break, suffered an injury in their 1-1 draw against Angola. Fatawu was substituted in the first half after picking up a knock.

Leicester teammate Jordan Ayew also sustained an injury, with scans revealing a “significant knee problem.”

Both players have withdrawn from the Black Stars’ squad, and Ghana’s Football Association confirmed that “following consultations between Black Stars’ medical head Dr. Prince Pambo and Leicester City’s medical team, Ayew and Issahaku will rejoin their club on Sunday to begin rehabilitation.”

While the full extent of Fatawu’s injury remains unclear, a recent post on Snapchat, where the winger was spotted wearing a knee brace, suggests he may face a long spell on the sidelines.

With Leicester City set to face Chelsea this weekend, attention now turns to who could replace Fatawu in the starting lineup.

While there’s a possibility he could recover in time, Bilal El Khannouss is expected to take the opportunity, especially as Ayew is unlikely to be fit.

Facundo Buonanotte is suspended, further opening the door for El Khannouss, while Bobby De Cordova-Reid remains an option, despite his struggles since joining from Fulham.
