Fans have yet to see defender Tyler Bindon and 23-year-old midfielder Marko Stamenic in action for the Reds, as both are currently out on loan. However, Wood, who has played alongside them for New Zealand, is confident they can make a significant impact at the City Ground.
The highly regarded young centre-back Bindon was signed on deadline day last month but was immediately loaned back to Reading for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, Stamenic, who joined from Red Star Belgrade last summer, has been gaining experience on loan at Olympiacos.
Wood is excited about the prospect of more New Zealand players competing in English football, particularly with Forest. Speaking to New Zealand publication Stuff, he expressed hope that the new additions could establish themselves in the Premier League in the near future.
The experienced striker emphasized that both players have already demonstrated their abilities at club and international levels. However, he acknowledged that the next challenge is proving themselves at Forest. While he firmly believes in their potential, he recognizes that it will be up to them to seize the opportunity.
Although Wood spoke positively about Bindon and Stamenic when asked by the club, he made it clear that he played no role in their moves to Forest. By the time he had discussions about them, the deals were already well advanced.
According to the 33-year-old, the club identified both players based on their own performances. He sees this as an opportunity for them to continue their development and reach new heights.
Wood praised Stamenic as a well-rounded midfielder with strong attacking and defensive qualities, making him well-suited for the Premier League. Meanwhile, he highlighted Bindon’s composure on the ball and impressive performances at Reading, noting that the young defender had attracted significant interest before joining Forest. He believes Bindon has what it takes to succeed in the top flight, provided he remains focused and determined.
