Vaclav Cerny stole the spotlight after Rangers secured a massive victory over Celtic on Sunday.

Rangers emerged from Celtic Park with all three points in a dramatic encounter, as Hamza Igamane netted an 88th-minute winner to seal a 3-2 triumph for the visitors.

Barry Ferguson would have been thrilled with yet another win, especially after his squad endured extra time and penalties to overcome Fenerbahce in the Europa League just days earlier.

Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande were also on the scoresheet, but Cerny found himself at the center of controversy after dousing Celtic fans with water during the late celebrations.

Cerny facing a significant suspension

Cerny was substituted in the 82nd minute for Igamane, watching from the bench as Rangers pushed for the decisive goal.

When Igamane delivered in the 88th minute, the Rangers bench erupted in celebration. In the midst of the chaos, Cerny was caught on camera spraying water toward Celtic supporters near the dugout. Security and police had to step in to defuse the situation.

According to The Daily Record (print edition, 18 March, pg 50), the Scottish FA and SPFL are considering disciplinary action against Cerny for his actions.

A potential ban looms over him, with a suspension ranging from a minimum of two games to a maximum of eight.

Ferguson strengthening his case at Rangers

Ferguson took over as interim manager following Philippe Clement’s dismissal in February.

Clement’s inability to mount a serious challenge against Celtic saw Rangers fall out of the Scottish Premiership title race prematurely.

Tasked with a daunting challenge, Ferguson has so far risen to the occasion. He has led Rangers to the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals by knocking out Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

Under his leadership, Rangers also triumphed at Celtic Park, securing bragging rights while significantly improving team morale and performances.

Though Rangers continue their search for a new permanent manager, Ferguson has made a compelling argument for himself as a strong candidate for the role.
