With the title race reaching its most crucial stage ahead of Wednesday night’s massive trip to Motherwell, Tomas Cvancara revealed on social media that he will not feature again this season and has effectively played his final match for Celtic.
The Czech forward posted a lengthy farewell message to supporters, confirming he is set to undergo surgery after suffering a torn adductor injury.
The announcement immediately sparked emotional reactions online from supporters who had hoped the striker might still have a future at the club beyond this season.
Instead, it now appears his short Celtic career has already come to an end.
Cvancara joined Celtic during the January transfer window on loan from Borussia Monchengladbach, with an option available for the Scottish champions to make the move permanent this summer.
While his spell in Glasgow never fully exploded into life, he still managed to produce one unforgettable contribution during his time at the club.
That dramatic winning penalty against Rangers at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup quarter-final instantly earned him a place in the memories of many supporters.
Unfortunately for the 25-year-old, injuries and fierce competition for places prevented him from building consistent momentum afterwards.
In total, Cvancara scored twice in 13 appearances for Celtic before his season was cut short.
Now, with surgery looming, the striker used Instagram to say goodbye to supporters in emotional fashion.
“This season is over for me,” he said on Instagram.
“Next week I’ll undergo surgery after tearing my adductor.
“Honestly, this is not how I imagined my season at Celtic coming to an end, and not the way I wanted it to finish.
“But despite everything, I’m truly grateful that I had the chance to be part of this club, this team, and these moments.
“I know there weren’t as many individual moments as I wanted, but whenever I stepped on the pitch, I always tried to help the team and give everything for the badge.
“And to all the fans.. THANK YOU.
“For every message, every bit of support, and the energy you gave me. It truly meant a lot.
“Now I’ll support the boys from the outside, and I truly believe this team will finish the season the right way and bring home the DOUBLE!!”
The timing of the news comes just days before Celtic travel to Fir Park knowing victory is absolutely essential if they want to maintain pressure on Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.
Martin O’Neill’s side are now entering the decisive final stretch of the campaign, with every match carrying enormous significance.
Cvancara will now be forced to watch those moments from the sidelines.
Although there has not yet been official confirmation regarding Celtic’s decision over the purchase option included in his loan agreement, his farewell message strongly suggests both sides already understand that his time at Parkhead is over.
