NafisaBrenden Aaronson’s future at Leeds United has suddenly become one of the biggest talking points of the summer, despite the American playing a key role in helping the Whites secure another season of Premier League football.
With Daniel Farke continuing to reshape his squad ahead of the new campaign, attention has largely focused on incoming transfers, including the imminent arrival of James Trafford and the club’s search for further attacking reinforcements.
However, behind the scenes, Leeds also have several important contract situations to resolve—and one of the most significant involves Aaronson.
The United States international has established himself as an important member of Farke’s squad over the past two seasons, but uncertainty is now beginning to grow over his long-term future at Elland Road.
According to Football Insider, Aaronson has yet to open formal negotiations over a new contract despite his current deal running until June 2027.
The attacking midfielder enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, contributing nine goal involvements in 37 Premier League appearances as Leeds comfortably retained their top-flight status.
Although sources indicate Aaronson wants to remain at Elland Road, discussions over an extension are only expected to begin in the coming weeks.
That delay has created uncertainty.
Football Insider reports that if an agreement cannot be reached, Leeds could seriously consider selling the 25-year-old before his contract begins running down, rather than risk losing value on one of their important first-team players.
Speaking on the publication’s Transfer Insider Podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke explained:
«”If there’s no breakthrough in new contract talks, then that might open the door for a potential exit from Elland Road as well.»
«”There’s nothing in the offing right now. I think the player himself just wants to continue working and keeping his place in the team as best as he can. If no new deal can be agreed, then Leeds might have to look at the possibility of cashing in on him.”»
Aaronson has rebuilt his reputation among Leeds supporters after initially facing criticism for leaving on loan following the club’s relegation in 2023.
His performances over the last two seasons have helped restore his standing, making him one of Farke’s trusted attacking options.
However, Leeds are continuing to explore further additions in forward areas, with Chelsea striker Liam Delap remaining on the club’s radar.
The Whites admire the England Under-21 international but are unwilling to meet Chelsea’s current £40 million valuation, meaning any move would depend on the Blues lowering their asking price before the transfer window closes.
For now, Aaronson remains fully focused on Leeds.
But unless fresh contract talks produce a breakthrough, the coming weeks could determine whether the American remains a key part of Farke’s long-term plans—or becomes one of the surprise names to leave Elland Road before the summer window shuts.
