Tottenham’s Bold Summer Ambitions: Wharton Chase Heats Up, Palace Stand Firm, and Major Transfer Battles Await

Tottenham have set their sights on Adam Wharton ahead of the summer transfer window, with reports outlining their plans for the midfielder alongside Archie Gray. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace’s position on Wharton’s future has also emerged.

Despite only making his Premier League debut just over a year ago, Wharton has already impressed with his performances for Palace, who signed him from Blackburn Rovers for an initial £18 million in January 2024.

Last season, the midfielder made an instant impact and secured a spot in Palace’s starting lineup. However, his progress this campaign has been hindered by a groin injury that required surgery.

Now back in action, Wharton remains highly regarded, with TEAMtalk reporting that Manchester United, Manchester City, and Newcastle United are closely monitoring his performances in the second half of the season, potentially preparing for a summer move.

Football Insider has also confirmed Tottenham’s interest in securing a deal for Wharton.

The club reportedly views him as a player with immense potential who could develop into a top-tier footballer in the coming years. Their vision is to pair Wharton with Gray in midfield.

Gray has primarily played as a centre-back this season due to Tottenham’s defensive injury woes. However, the 18-year-old is naturally a midfielder and previously impressed at right-back for Leeds United last season.

Crystal Palace’s Stance on Wharton’s Future

Although Tottenham are eager to see Wharton and Gray form a dynamic midfield duo, securing the Palace star in the summer may prove difficult.

Football Insider reports that Palace have no plans to sell Wharton.

With the 21-year-old under contract until 2029, the club is in a strong position to reject any offers.

Considering the interest from Manchester United, Manchester City, and Newcastle, Tottenham could face a significant challenge in landing the highly-rated England international.

Tottenham Transfer Updates: Van de Ven, Walker-Peters, and Sane

Tottenham may have to fend off Liverpool’s interest in Micky van de Ven.

There is growing speculation that the Premier League leaders are targeting Van de Ven as they search for a new centre-back, believing he would be a strong addition to Arne Slot’s squad.

Additionally, Tottenham are exploring a move for Kyle Walker-Peters.

The right-back’s contract with Southampton expires at the end of the season, and there are no signs of an extension. With Southampton struggling at the bottom of the Premier League, relegation seems likely, potentially paving the way for Walker-Peters to return to Spurs on a free transfer in 2025.

The 27-year-old began his professional career at Tottenham before departing in 2020.

Another target on Tottenham’s radar is Leroy Sane.

The winger’s contract with Bayern Munich runs out at the end of the season, and the German club appears to have accepted that he will not renew his deal.

Reports suggest Tottenham are “serious contenders” to sign Sane, potentially bringing him to north London as a free agent.
