NafisaLeeds United supporters are preparing to say farewell to one of the club’s most memorable figures from the Marcelo Bielsa era, with Jack Harrison now closing in on a permanent departure from Elland Road after reaching an agreement to continue his career elsewhere.
The winger’s Leeds journey appears to be coming to an end following months of uncertainty, with reports indicating that New England Revolution are close to completing a deal to bring the 29-year-old back to Major League Soccer.
It marks the final chapter in a relationship that once promised so much but gradually unravelled after Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League.
Daniel Farke made his stance crystal clear
When Leeds secured promotion back to the Premier League, Daniel Farke wasted little time assessing which players would form part of his long-term plans.
Patrick Bamford was among the first casualties after being left out of the club’s pre-season tour, effectively signalling that his time at Elland Road was over.
Jack Harrison was initially handed another opportunity after returning from consecutive loan spells at Everton, largely because of his Premier League experience. However, despite being reintegrated into the squad, he struggled to convince Farke that he deserved a regular place.
Limited game time followed before Harrison pushed for another move in January, joining Fiorentina on loan in search of regular football.
The Italian club ultimately declined to make the deal permanent, but by then it had become increasingly obvious that Harrison had no future under Farke.
This summer, the Leeds boss has again made his position perfectly clear, with Harrison absent from first-team plans and not featuring in the club’s pre-season preparations.
The message was unmistakable: find a new club.
Permanent move finally agreed
According to The Athletic, New England Revolution have now reached an agreement that will see Harrison leave Leeds permanently, ending one of the club’s longest-running transfer sagas.
The MLS side are expected to register the former Leeds winger as one of their Designated Players, underlining how highly they value his experience despite his difficult spell in recent seasons.
For Leeds, the move also removes one of the club’s highest earners from the wage bill after Harrison spent three years away from Elland Road through a series of unsuccessful loan moves.
A Leeds career that will divide opinion
There was a time when Harrison was one of the first names on Marcelo Bielsa’s team sheet.
His energy, work rate and ability to produce important goals made him a fan favourite during Leeds’ rise back to the Premier League.
Across 219 appearances, he scored 34 goals and provided 32 assists, helping create some of the club’s most memorable moments in recent years.
But his decision to leave immediately after relegation changed the relationship with many supporters.
Back-to-back loans at Everton failed to revive his career, while his spell at Fiorentina also ended without a permanent offer.
Now, after Daniel Farke effectively informed him that he was no longer part of the project at Elland Road, Harrison is finally set to move on for good.
Leeds continue major squad rebuild
Harrison’s exit is another significant piece of Daniel Farke’s summer overhaul as Leeds prepare for life back in the Premier League.
Harry Wilson and Tarik Muharemovic have already arrived, while further additions remain a priority, particularly in goal as the club continue pursuing Manchester City’s James Trafford.
With Harrison now reaching an agreement to leave permanently, Leeds can finally close the book on one of the last remaining stories from the Bielsa era and fully focus on building a squad capable of competing in the Premier League once again.
