NafisaCeltic have moved a significant step closer to completing another summer addition after agreeing personal terms with highly-rated German midfielder Mika Baur.
The Scottish champions have been working quietly behind the scenes to strengthen Brendan Rodgers’ squad, and they now appear to have made major progress in their pursuit of the 22-year-old.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on Tuesday that Baur has already agreed the personal side of the move, leaving Celtic focused solely on striking an agreement with his current club, Paderborn.
Romano posted: “Understand Celtic have reached an agreement with Mika Baur on personal terms. Club to club talks ongoing with Paderborn.”
The update suggests the player has given the green light to a move to Parkhead, with negotiations now continuing between the two clubs as Celtic look to complete the transfer.
Baur has attracted attention from several clubs in Germany following his impressive performances, with Schalke 04 among those previously linked.
Reports have also claimed that a number of Bundesliga sides have been monitoring his development, making Celtic’s progress in the race all the more significant.
Comfortable in several midfield roles, Baur can operate as a central midfielder, a deeper-lying playmaker or in a more advanced attacking position. He has also shown his versatility by featuring on the left wing when required, offering Rodgers multiple tactical options.
Paderborn had been hoping to tie the midfielder down to a longer contract despite his current deal running until 2027, but Celtic’s interest has accelerated discussions over his future.
According to reports from Sky Sports Germany, the German club value Baur at around £2.5 million, with talks between the clubs now underway.
Having already secured the player’s commitment, Celtic will now look to complete the final stage of negotiations and bring the talented German to Glasgow as preparations continue for the new season.
