At Ibrox, Derek McInnes has already overseen one of the busiest rebuilding projects in the country. Rangers have moved decisively in the market following the managerial change, bringing in a mixture of proven Scottish Premiership experience and players capable of strengthening the squad for both domestic and European challenges.
The Light Blues have made it clear that this summer is about building a squad capable of competing immediately, while also laying foundations for sustained success over the coming years. With several new faces already welcomed through the doors, Rangers supporters have been eagerly awaiting confirmation of yet another addition.
That confirmation has now arrived.
Rangers complete Cammy Devlin signing
Rangers have officially confirmed the signing of Cammy Devlin, with the midfielder agreeing a two-year contract that also includes the option of an additional 12 months.
The Australia international arrives at Ibrox after the expiry of his contract with Hearts, where he now reunites with manager Derek McInnes following their successful spell together in Edinburgh.
Devlin leaves Tynecastle after making well over 150 appearances for the Jambos and establishing himself as one of the club’s most dependable performers.
The energetic midfielder played a key role during Hearts’ impressive campaign last season, helping the Edinburgh side register the highest Scottish Premiership points total in the club’s history.
Born in Sydney, Devlin began his football journey through the youth systems at Sutherland Sharks and Western Sydney Wanderers before continuing his development with Sydney FC, where he gained experience in both the A-League and the AFC Champions League.
His consistent performances eventually earned him a move across the Tasman Sea to Wellington Phoenix in 2019, where he spent two seasons before Hearts secured his services in 2021.
On the international stage, Devlin made his senior debut for Australia in 2022 before earning a place in the Socceroos squad for that year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The midfielder has now collected five senior international caps, while his displays for Hearts during the previous campaign were enough to earn another call-up for Australia’s squad at this summer’s FIFA World Cup, where they progressed to the Round of 32.
Devlin becomes Rangers’ sixth signing of the current transfer window following the arrivals of Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Ben Godfrey, Ivor Pandur and Dan Neil.
Devlin delighted to complete Ibrox switch
Speaking after putting pen to paper on his Rangers contract, Devlin admitted he is excited to begin the next stage of his career under a manager he already knows well.
He said:
“It feels amazing. I am obviously so happy to get it over the line; with the gaffer coming here and a lot of change happening at the club, it feels like a great time to be coming here.
“It is just an absolute honour and privilege; I am so aware, being in Scotland for a while now, the size of the club and everything that comes with playing at such a massive football club.
“To call myself a Rangers player now feels pretty special and I just cannot wait to get started.”
The Australian’s arrival gives McInnes another player who already understands the demands of Scottish football and someone capable of bringing intensity, work rate and experience to Rangers’ midfield.
McInnes explains why Devlin was a priority
Having previously managed Devlin during his time at Hearts, McInnes believes the midfielder’s consistency and attitude made him an obvious target as Rangers continue strengthening ahead of the new season.
The Rangers boss said:
“Cammy is obviously a player I know, and I am well aware what he will offer to Rangers.
“His levels of consistency for me were superb, and he is the type of player that every manager wants in his team.
“He is someone who knows the Scottish league, and nothing will surprise him with what lies ahead. I am looking forward to welcoming Cammy to Rangers and working with him again after he returns from his holiday.”
With Rangers continuing to reshape their squad under McInnes, Devlin’s arrival represents another important piece of the puzzle. His familiarity with both the manager’s methods and the Scottish Premiership should allow him to settle quickly as the Light Blues prepare for another season in pursuit of domestic silverware and European progress.
