There is also a growing feeling around Elland Road that this summer could define the direction of Daniel Farke’s project for years to come. Recruitment has become the central focus, with Leeds looking for players capable of making an instant impact while also bringing valuable experience at the highest level.
Supporters have watched a number of names linked with the club over recent weeks, ranging from established Premier League performers to emerging talents from across Europe. With competition becoming fiercer every season, Leeds understand that standing still is simply not an option.
The club’s recruitment team have also been working behind the scenes to revisit targets that previously slipped through their grasp. Some transfer pursuits looked finished months ago, yet Leeds have quietly continued laying the groundwork for potential deals as they prepare for another demanding campaign.
That persistence appears to have paid off.
Leeds United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Harry Wilson on a free transfer.
The Wales international is expected to depart Fulham once his contract expires at the end of the month. Aston Villa and Everton were among the clubs monitoring the 29-year-old attacker.
Fulham attempted to persuade Wilson to remain at Craven Cottage and even presented him with a fresh contract proposal following what was arguably his finest Premier League campaign. However, the forward has opted to continue his career at Elland Road on a long-term agreement. The move is now subject to the completion of a medical examination.
Wilson enjoyed an outstanding season in the top flight, finding the net 10 times while also contributing seven assists. Those impressive numbers attracted attention from clubs competing in European competitions, including teams involved in the Champions League.
His arrival would represent a significant statement of intent from Leeds and comes almost a year after a dramatic deadline-day move to Elland Road collapsed at the eleventh hour.
According to Sky Sports News, both Leeds and Wilson had signed a deal sheet in anticipation of finalising the transfer. However, Fulham reportedly failed to complete the necessary paperwork, resulting in the proposed switch falling through at the last moment.
Leeds have not limited their ambitions to Wilson alone.
The Whites have also explored the possibility of landing Julian Brandt, who is set to become a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of the month.
Meanwhile, negotiations continue with Southampton regarding midfielder Shea Charles after the Saints deemed Leeds’ initial £20 million proposal insufficient.
Leeds’ broader summer plans remain extensive as they seek to establish themselves comfortably in the Premier League. Farke is eager to inject greater individual quality into a squad already known for its intensity, work ethic and resilience.
The goalkeeping department remains a major area of focus. Discussions with Karl Darlow are ongoing as his current contract approaches expiration on July 1. Should he leave, Leeds may need to enter the market for a new first-choice goalkeeper, particularly after questions emerged regarding Lucas Perri following his omission from the starting lineup.
The Yorkshire side also explored a move for Jorgen Strand Larsen in January but were unwilling to match the £48 million eventually paid by Crystal Palace to secure his services from Wolves. As a result, another striker could be targeted before the transfer window closes.
Depending solely on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha would represent a considerable risk given both players’ injury histories.
Elsewhere, Facundo Buonanotte appears unlikely to return following a disappointing six-month loan spell from Brighton. Joel Piroe and winger Wilfried Gnonto also face uncertain futures. Piroe attracted substantial interest during previous transfer windows, while Freiburg are believed to be keen on taking Gnonto to the Bundesliga.
Defensively, Leeds remain short of options on the left side. Gabriel Gudmundsson and Pascal Struijk are currently the only natural candidates in that area, with Farke previously relying on the versatility of James Justin to cover gaps when required.
As a result, further reinforcements at the back are expected before the window closes.
For now, however, the headline development appears to be Wilson’s impending arrival. If completed, Leeds will have secured one of the most sought-after free agents available this summer and added a player with proven Premier League pedigree to their ranks ahead of the new season.
