Former Celtic favourite John Guidetti has made a surprise return to football, coming out of retirement at just 33 to sign for a fourth tier side in Sweden, despite previously claiming he was ready to “eat kebabs” for the rest of his life.
The ex Manchester City forward burst onto the scene during his loan spell in 2014, making an instant impact with his goals. However, his form dipped later on, and he turned down the chance to make the move permanent at Celtic.
Things also turned tense during the League Cup Final victory over Dundee United when he reacted poorly after not being allowed to take a late penalty. The spot kick was missed by James Forrest, and Guidetti had to be convinced to take part in the post match celebrations.
He later moved on to Celta Vigo and also had spells with Alaves and Hannover before heading back to Sweden to join AIK.
Guidetti departed the Stockholm side earlier this year and revealed plans to move into television work as a pundit.
He said: “Now I can eat kebabs without criticism.
“It’s a bit like Picasso. He’s okay at painting, so why shouldn’t he paint? It feels like I’m pretty good at this, and I want to do something I’m good at.”
However, the striker has now been drawn back into action after agreeing a deal with Swedish fourth tier outfit Rinkeby United.
The club confirmed: “We are delighted to confirm we have signed an international player who has played for some of Europe‘s top clubs like Manchester City, Feyenoord, Celtic and Celta Vigo.
“John Guidetti will play for us at our Knutby ground.”
Guidetti has also previously claimed that Celtic handled the end of his loan spell poorly.
He said: “In my loan spell at Celtic, the club played a nasty game with me.
“In the winter, the club management offered me a contract, but I declined that.
“The Scottish league was good for me to get fully fit, but my goal was always to play in England or Spain because I consider those two competitions to be the best in the world.
“Because of that, at Celtic I ended up in the stands.
“It was a real pity because Celtic are a terrific club and their fans deserved a better farewell from me.”
