Rangers will get a deal done to re-sign Besiktas winger Vaclav Cerny for as little as £5million this summer.
That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that the Czech star is “exactly the type of player” that the Light Blues need right now.
The Ibrox club have been linked with a move for the 28-year-old once again this summer, after he enjoyed a highly effective loan spell in 2024-25.
Recent claims have indicated that Besiktas could sanction a sale for Cerny if they are able to recover the £6m they invested in him, although Wyness believes an offer closer to £5m could be enough to unlock negotiations.
Cerny registered 18 goals and nine assists across all competitions during his loan period at Rangers, and could yet be on course for a return to Glasgow this summer.
New manager Derek McInnes is settling into life at Ibrox following his switch from Hearts, with transfer activity already emerging as a key focus.
Vaclav Cerny’s Scottish Premiership experience perfect for Rangers Aberdeen’s former chief Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004 and now runs a consultancy business advising elite clubs – believes that McInnes will place significant value on Cerny’s prior exposure to Scottish football.
The Gers saw their temporary deal for Andreas Skov Olsen fail to produce the desired return in the latter half of the campaign, but Wyness feels a different outcome would follow with Cerny.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, he suggested that it would be a “very good move” for Rangers to bring him back.
“I think they’ll get it done at about £5m, but I do think he’s exactly the type of player they need. He’s got the experience,” the Scottish businessman said.
“McInnes will want that Premiership experience as well. He’s a quality player and played well for Rangers.
“There’ll probably be some add-ons, but I think they can get it done at £5m, and it’s a very good move if they can get Cerny in.”
Rangers to beak transfer policy to sign Cerny:
Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Rangers are prepared to bend their revised recruitment model if they manage to secure Cerny’s return.
The winger would typically be considered outside their preferred profile at 28, given the club’s shift toward younger assets with future resale value.
However, there is now an openness to making an exception for a player already proven in their system, in a move that could significantly strengthen the squad.
Rangers are not in a position to sanction major outlays for Cerny, but remain highly interested should a reduced-fee opportunity arise.
