Celtic star Sebastian Tounekti has mocked Rangers with a ‘Simply the Best’ jibe after victory over the Ibrox side in the Scottish Cup.
Martin O’Neill’s side progressed to the final four of the tournament after defeating their city rivals in a penalty shoot-out at Ibrox on Sunday.
The teams could not be separated after 120 minutes with the score locked at 0-0.
However, Celtic were perfect from the spot with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Auston Trusty, Reo Hatate and Tomas Cvancara converting their penalties, while James Tavernier and Djeidi Gassama missed for Rangers.
Celtic will now face St Mirren at Hampden next month in the semi-final for a place in the showpiece final at the end of the season.
After securing the victory, Tounekti couldn’t resist a swipe at Rangers as he shared an image of the Celtic huddle at Ibrox on social media.
Posting on his Instagram story to his 282k followers, Tounekti used a soundbite from Tina Turner’s Simply the Best, an anthem embraced by Rangers supporters and played at Ibrox before every home fixture.
He captioned the post: “Glasgow stays green and white (green and white heart emoji)”
Tounekti started the match at Ibrox but was substituted after 57 minutes and replaced by Cvancara.
Meanwhile, Tounekti has revealed the unseen support he has received from Celtic while fasting during Ramadan.
“Ramadan is a great month for Muslims, but the fasting does require sacrifice,” Tounekti explained. “We cannot eat or drink anything until after midnight. At that time, I can eat or drink and, of course, when the fast is over I can have what I want.
“The fasting is something I have been doing for a long time so I know what I should do to keep myself in good shape and what not to do.
“It is something I am used to and, of course, the club has been amazing in supporting me through Ramadan. The dieticians work with me closely to tell me what to eat and what not to eat.”
