UNBELIEVABLE —Wolves ‘sensational’ Veteran star has just indirectly decided to DUMP the Wanderers after saying YES and gave Green Light to summer move away from Molineux to follow in the footsteps of Matheus Cunha and Ait-nouri

It’s back to square one for Leeds United in their search for a new goalkeeper as Brentford edge closer to securing Caoimhin Kelleher from Liverpool – though Leeds still have alternatives.

Leeds were among the sides to register interest in Ireland international Kelleher. But Brentford acted swiftly after Mark Flekken agreed to join Bayer Leverkusen, with Kelleher now poised for a move to West London.

Shortly after Kelleher’s £18m switch was reported, Leeds were once again heavily linked with Newcastle’s Nick Pope. It is anticipated Pope will be made available as The Toon target James Trafford.

A number of goalkeepers are being associated with Leeds, with Chelsea also open to offers for Djordje Petrovic. But at present, it seems Wolves and England goalkeeper Sam Johnstone could emerge as the main option for Leeds.

Sam Johnstone gives Leeds United the all-clear over transfer:

Johnstone only arrived at Wolves from Crystal Palace last summer, but the 32-year-old is eager to move on again after serving as understudy to Jose Sa. The England keeper is looking for regular minutes ahead of the World Cup.

Leeds have previously been linked with the ex-West Brom and Aston Villa player, and now TeamTalk provide additional insight. They report a deal to bring Johnstone to Elland Road from Wolves would cost The 49ers £8m this summer.

Crucially, Johnstone is eager to join Leeds. He is enthusiastic about a switch to Elland Road as it presents the opportunity to reclaim a first-choice role in the Premier League going into the 25-26 campaign.

What Sam Allardyce and Gary Lineker have said about Johnstone:

Johnstone still has several years ahead of him and brings a wealth of experience in both the Premier League and the Championship. Still, his arrival as the club’s top keeper may not excite many Leeds supporters.

That said, Sam Allardyce has hailed Johnstone as one of the finest goalkeepers he has worked with during their stint together at The Hawthorns. Gary Lineker also called Johnstone “sensational” during his Preston days.

Johnstone is on the market, affordable and willing to sign for Leeds. A shot-stopper with top-flight credentials and England appearances. But if Leeds are given the option between Pope and Johnstone, the preference must be the former.
